Why Boom™ Cards?
I discovered Boom Cards in 2020 during COVID, when I began focusing on Telehealth services and it completely changed things for the better for myself, my learners, and my staff.
ABA programs are intended to do ongoing assessment. This means that the clinical team evaluates progress and makes changes on a regular basis. When a step within a goal is mastered, the clinical team will automatically move the learner on to the next developmental stage.
One barrier to the progress of an ABA program is the delays that are involved in getting materials, visual, supports, and other materials to the physical location of the sessions. If, for example, you are working on categories using pictures of items, and it is time to move on, someone in the clinical team needs to find the pictures on the Google images, or some other program, print out those pictures, and then laminate them. This is not billable time, and even if it was, it is very time consuming and inefficient. They have to remember to put the pictures in their car. Then they have to make sure that they remember to bring them the next time they see that learner. On top of this, the clinical team does not see learners as often as the direct staff members do, so this delays progress even further.
As a consequence, there would generally be a week long or longer even longer delays to get the materials that are needed for a learner. This kind of delay can impact a learner’s development. This is one of the biggest benefits of Boom Cards, in my opinion. By creating the resources on Boom Learning directly as the clinician, I can assign the boom deck and have it accessible and ready for my learner within seconds. I can also assign a Boom Deck when that learner is done with that particular part of the lesson, again, within seconds. Because it’s online, I can control my learners account. I can assign and unassign decks at will. There have been many times where I am joining one of my direct staff members on an overlap, and they point out that they need something, or I am analyzing the data and see that the learner is ready to move on. Within seconds, I can make that change and have it accessible to my team. It is so convenient!
How to use Boom Cards
To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have an account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with “Fast Pins,” (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). Does it cost to have an account on Boom™ Learning?
There is no cost to create or maintain a regular account. Most people won’t need a paid account. If you are a parent intending to use Boom Cards for just your child, you will not need to use a paid account. It will be free to use. The paid accounts are for teachers and therapists who want to assign Boom Cards to multiple students and who will want reports on student progress.
Are Boom™ Decks expensive?
The decks available on Boom Learning vary in price. Each seller decides the price of each deck. For example, on my account, I have individual decks ranging $0-7.99.
What are Bundles?
Bundles are a great way to save money if you wish to purchase several Boom Decks offered by a particular seller. Usually, when I bundle products, I offer about a 20% discount.
